On 16 October 2013, in New York, H. E. Mr. Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, and H. E. Mr. Tommo Monthe, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cameroon to the United Nations, signed the Joint Communiqué on the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Cameroon.
The Republic of Cameroon is the 173rd state with which Lithuania has established the diplomatic relations.

On April 28 2010, the Cameroonian Clement Atangana was elected member of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights by the 54 members of Economic and Social Council of the United Nations for a term of four years.
Three African countries were in competition (Algeria, Burkina Faso and Cameroon) to serve on this body of Economic and Social Council, for the two positions reserved for Africa.
